Samsung’s One UI 7 update brought many under-the-radar improvements. One feature made a noticeable difference in how I use my phone. The Open All Minimized Apps feature may seem like a minor addition, but it improved my day-to-day multitasking. I’ll walk you through what the feature does, how to use it, and where it helped me most.

What Samsung’s multitasking upgrade actually does

In Samsung One UI, Pop-up View (floating windows) allows you to open an app in a small, resizable window that sits over other apps. You can move it around and minimize it into a tiny icon on the screen. One UI 7 builds on this by grouping minimized windows and adding an “Open All” button. It does two things to keep things neat.

If you have more than one minimized window from the same app, it combines them into a single icon. Tapping that icon displays previews of each window so that you can pick which one to open. One UI displays an Open all button if you have multiple minimized pop-ups. Tapping this button reopens every minimized window at once.

How to shrink, minimize, and reopen pop-up apps

Launch the app you want in a floating window (for example, a video player or a web browser) and enter Recents view. With gesture navigation, swipe up from the bottom and hold. With navigation buttons, tap the Recent button. In Recents, tap the app icon on its preview card and select Open in pop-up view.

This shrinks the app into a movable floating window. Drag its title bar to reposition or pinch its edges to resize. These steps aren’t mandatory for the open-all function, but they help if you want to arrange your windows neatly.

Tap the minimize icon (two arrows pointing at each other) to minimize a floating window into an icon. Alternatively, press the Home button while the pop-up is active. Do this for each app you want to minimize. One UI shows the Open All button when you have two or more minimized pop-up icons on the screen. Tap that button, and all the minimized pop-up windows reopen.

Real-life moments where this feature shines

This feature shines in everyday multitasking. Here are examples of how this feature made things easier for me.

This feature keeps me in the zone during tasks

This feature is invaluable in my work routine. When writing a report, I open Google Docs for drafting and run Chrome for research. If I need to step away, I minimize everything, and One UI brings everything back. The same applies to online meetings, where I run Google Meet in one pop-up and Notes in another. Being able to restore my setup instantly helps me stay focused and quickly get back into a productive rhythm.

This feature is perfect for study sessions

As a student, I often open a PDF in one window while using ChatGPT in another window side by side. When I take a break, I minimize both into icons. Later, instead of opening each app individually, everything’s right where I left it.

The easiest way to plan a vacation without losing your setup

When planning a vacation, I use Google Maps to explore neighborhoods, read reviews, and save must-visit spots. I also open Notion to draft an itinerary. Then, I open Chrome and check my flights and hotel bookings. Usually, bringing everything back is a hassle. However, with the Open All button, my map, itinerary, bookings, and weather info are all back in front of me.

Open All made my recipe-following less chaotic

When cooking from a recipe video or following an online guide, I usually play the video in one pop-up and a timer app in another. It’s convenient having both on screen while I prep and cook. If I need to pause to clear the counter or reply to a message, I minimize both windows to get them out of the way. With One UI, I don’t have to search for the apps or reopen anything manually.

I no longer lose track while managing my finances

I use Google Sheets to track expenses and my banking app to cross-check transactions when reviewing my monthly budget. After pausing to take a call, I minimize everything. When I’m ready to continue, the Open All button restores the entire setup in one go, so I don’t lose my place.

This underrated feature deserves more attention

If you often bounce between tasks, this feature was made for you. It may not grab headlines, but it quietly solves a common friction point. It’s one of those thoughtful additions that improves your daily phone experience without you noticing.
