What should you watch this weekend? It might not be the eternal question, but it is an old one.
There are too many choices on streaming and faced with them, it’s easy to fall into a comfort watch. But even the most comfortable things can wear thin after a while.
So I’ve done the work of sorting through what’s new and by giving you less to choose from, the more likely you might be to watch one of them.
Outlast: The Jungle (Netflix)
Netflix’s Survivor-like show is set in the Panamanian jungle this season. To win, the 16 contestants have to abandon the idea of every man for himself and remain loyal to their teams to have a shot at splitting the $1 million prize. Among the players is Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Wesley Saunders who’s already vying for the title of the internet’s most hated player.
Alice and Steve (Hulu)
I would love to have been in the pitch meeting for Alice and Steve. How did the creators present the premise that a guy ends up in a relationship with the daughter of his ex-girlfriend, now-friend’s daughter? As a cringe comedy? As a daring drama? Or, as Hulu is calling it now, a wrong-com?
Best of the World With Antoni Porowski (Hulu, Disney+)
A decade as one of the Queer Eye guys has made Antoni Porowski more worldly, and now he’s set out to do the same for viewers. He visits Paris, Mexico City, London, and New York in search of the sights and tastes that make each unique.
Surviving Earth (Peacock)
As climate change charges on, we need some inspiring tales of how to get through the worst earth can throw at you. That’s not exactly what you’ll find in this eight-part docuseries that chronicles the most catastrophic events on the planet with titles like “When the Earth Burned,” “When the Forests Collapsed,” and “When the Oceans Shrank.”
Every Year After (Prime Video)
The picturesque town of Barry’s Bay is the setting of the summers that Percy and Sam spend together over and over again, always with the question hovering over them of whether they’re meant to be together. The eight-episode series is based on the YA novel Every Summer After.
