Google completed its Fitbit acquisition in 2021. Less than a year later, in 2022, the company announced that starting in 2023, users would need a Google account to activate new Fitbit devices. It also gave existing users until early 2025 to migrate from their Fitbit accounts to Google accounts. Then, in March 2025, the company delayed the deadline by almost a year to February 2, 2026. Google has now again silently extended that timeline.

Google has updated its support page to reflect that existing Fitbit account users have until May 19, 2026, to move their Fitbit account data to Google (via 9to5Google). The company previously informed Fitbit users about the new deadline through an email. That’s not the case this time, with Google only quietly updating the relevant support page.

After May 19, 2026, you can no longer access Fitbit with your Fitbit account. To continue using your account, you’ll need to move your Fitbit account to Google.

For users who decide not to migrate, the company is providing them until July 15, 2026, to download or delete their account data. Post that date, though, Google will start deleting all Fitbit account-related data from its servers. This new deadline is also an extension, as Google previously planned to delete all Fitbit account data after February 2, 2026.

If you have not already, Google highlights several benefits of moving your Fitbit account to Google. Besides keeping all your previous health data, you can use a single Google login to manage your paired devices. You don’t really gain new features; you will just have one less account to manage.

You can use the “Move account” option from the profile section of your Fitbit account to start the migration to Google.

Google’s Fitbit migration problem isn’t going away

It’s unclear why Google has again extended the Fitbit to Google account migration deadline. But it seems like older Fitbit users are resisting the move and sticking to their Fitbit account.

If you bought a new Fitbit wearable or a Pixel Watch in the last few years, you’re likely already using a Google account. Google stopped allowing new device activations through Fitbit accounts in 2023.
