Filza is perhaps the single most popular file manager app for jailbroken devices. With it, users can browse their iPhone or iPad’s file system just like they could on their Mac or PC, which is something you can’t do on a non-jailbroken handset.
But Filza isn’t without its shortcomings, and iOS developer 0xkuj is determined to make it better with the release of a new jailbreak tweak called FilzaDirProbe, which enhances the experience in Filza with elegant and intuitive features so you can better manage the files on your device.
As noted in a post shared on X (formerly Twitter) by the developer, FilzaDirProbe is essentially a diskprobe alternative that works on the back of the Filza file manager app for jailbroken devices. The depiction page in the YouRepo repository notes that it provides end users with a plethora of different benefits, including:
- Whole System Calculation: Accurately calculate the size of the entire system, which is a process that can take some time (generally several minutes) depending on the size and the number of files in the system.
- Specific Path Calculation: Quickly calculate the size of any specific directory with little effort.
- Sorting: Sort even folders with the native Filza package manager app’s sorting buttons.
- Real-Time Sync: Get an accurate and real-time depiction of folders’ sizes even when you’re in the middle of making changes, such as moving, deleting, cutting, or pasting files.
- Compatibility with Jailbroken & TrollStore: Use this tweak on fully jailbroken devices or on non-jailbroken devices that are running TrollStore with the TrollStore-based version of Filza.
- Rootless & Rootful Support: Use FilzaDirProbe with both rootless and rootful jailbreaks.
- Firmware Support: Use FilzaDirProbe with any of the following firmware versions: iOS 13, iOS 14, iOS 15, or iOS 16.
If you haven’t already inferred by now, FilzaDirProbe is a Filza-enhancing jailbreak tweak and isn’t intended to be used on its own without the Filza package manager app. Fortunately, Filza is a free download for anyone to use.
FilzaDirProbe brings a lot of useful and exciting features to the Filza package manager app, but not everyone needs these features. It’s generally recommended for more advanced users who are looking to get more out of the user experience of the Filza package manager app. Less advanced users are less likely to be using Filza in the first place, and if you don’t, then you may not see value in the features offered by FilzaDirProbe.
According to the developer, the tweak can be useful for finding out what’s taking up all that storage space on your device. Any time you make changes to the filesystem, it calculates the difference in folder size in real time. A future update will apparently even include background scanning.
