TempDrop temporarily opens AirDrop to ‘everyone’ on a timer before reverting to a more private setting

We previously showed you an AirDrop-enhancing jailbreak tweak called AirDrop16 that enabled users to choose how long AirDrop would broadcast to ‘Everyone’ before falling back to a more secure setting, such as ‘Contacts Only.’

That tweak was paid, but we were delighted to see that iOS developer iCraze recently released a free alternative called TempDrop that achieves many of the same goals, albeit with fewer bells and whistles.

Tweaks such as AirDrop16 and TempDrop are important as they can help you avoid falling victim to prank attacks such as those possible with AirTroller. Furthermore, it lets you open your AirDrop-enabled device to sending and receiving to and from other AirDrop devices for a limited time so that you don’t have to worry about forgetting to set it back to contacts only later on.

Once installed, TempDrop adds a dedicated preference pane to the Settings app where users can configure a few options to their liking:

Options here include:

  • Toggling the tweak on or off on demand
  • Choosing a receiving mode that TempDrop should revert back to:
    • Receiving off
    • Contacts only
    • Previously-used
  • Configure a delay (in minutes) before the AirDrop feature changes back from Everyone to something else

At face value, many of the core features are identical to that of AirDrop16; on the other hand, the latter is a bit more polished. The developer tells us that the reason for this is that AirDrop16 includes automatic adaptation to ‘Everyone, X minutes’ in all system areas where Everyone is displayed, and also it allows for automatic return to “Disabled/Contacts Only” even when the screen is locked.

For these reasons, AirDrop16 is currently the superior tweak, but if you don’t want to spend any money, then the TempDrop tweak is a viable option that will unquestionably get the job done.

Those looking to give TempDrop a try can download it for free from the Havoc repository via their favorite package manager app. The tweak supports jailbroken iOS 14, 15, and 16 devices.

Are you planning to give the free TempDrop tweak a try? Be sure to let us know why or why not in the comments section down below.
