If you’re a jailbreaker on iOS 16 or earlier, then you might be a little bit frustrated that you can’t install and use the ChatGPT app on your device because it requires iOS 17.0 or later. Even worse, you can’t just downgrade to an older version of the app, because the ChatGPT developers plague you with the following nonsense pop-up:
Anyone who’s looking to circumvent this asinine forced upgrading nonsense can now turn to the likes of a new and free jailbreak tweak called SpoofGPT by iOS developer 0xjf, which spoofs the ChatGPT app into thinking you’re running a compatible version of iOS, even if you’re jailbroken on an older version.
As you can see in the screenshot examples above, installing and setting up SpoofGPT allows us to run the ChatGPT app on our jailbroken device despite running iOS 16, which isn’t compatible with the ChatGPT app anymore. It not only bypasses the silly restrictive “run iOS 17.0 or later” prompt, but allows us to use the app.
Once installed, SpoofGPT adds a dedicated preference pane to the Settings app where users can toggle the tweak on or off on demand, as well as install the latest compatible version of the app for their iOS 16 device:
Since there are a lot of jailbreakers who probably feel left out by this app developer’s choice to support only iOS 17.0 and later, this is a welcomed tweak.
If you’re a jailbreaker who’d like to use ChatGPT and you’re ready to use the SpoofGPT jailbreak tweak, then you can acquire it from the developer’s personal repository via your favorite package manager app.
Anyone who isn’t already using 0xjt’s personal repository can add it to their package manager app of choice by using the URL provided below:
