Bose has bought the popular headphones brand Skullcandy, ending the pair’s long working relationship.
While some Skullcandy fans may be worried about what this means for the distinctive brand, Bose has stated that little will be changing for the brand, outside of it being able to rely on Bose’s extensive experience and resources from now on.
Skullcandy now has Bose backing it up
It’s a sizeable upgrade in resources for Skullcandy
Bose and Skullcandy have been working together for some time now, with Bose using its significant expertise in sound engineering to boost Skullcandy’s excellent and unique designs. Now, the two companies have decided to make that partnership permanent, with an announcement that Bose will acquire Skullcandy for good. It’s clear that working with Skullcandy has brought Bose a strong respect for its goal, as Bose has made it clear its first mission is to provide Skullcandy with the resources it needs to expand and develop its business. Since Bose has considerable resources, connections, and technology to offer, as well as a massive worldwide distribution network, that’s likely to be an enormous boon for Skullcandy.
Of course, fans may be worried about what this means for the company down the road. Not all acquisitions are as rosy as they initially seem, and worries that the brand will eventually be reduced to a sticker on an ostensibly Bose product are well-founded. However, within the audio marketplace, we’ve seen brands like Beats thrive under the leadership of larger companies, so hopefully this will turn out to be one of the situations.
Nothing will happen overnight, though. Fans of both brands have time to watch as it becomes clear how the two brands will effect each other.
Both Bose and Skullcandy inhabit somewhat different sides of the audio market. Bose products are known for premium products that are all about quiet excellence. Skullcandy, while still good, tend to lean towards the more design-focused end of the spectrum, offering products that are unique and eye-catching.
The two differing approaches to the same products are why the two brands worked so well together, and why fans should have hope that bringing the two together may lead to something better than they accomplished apart.
