Samsung is one of the more generous brands when it comes to promotions for its new phones. We’ve seen incredible trade-in offers, generous reserve credits, and free storage upgrades. That last one is probably one of its best-known promotions, providing double the storage without any additional cost.
It’s been widely popular for a few years now, but it looks like that promotion might not find its way to the upcoming release of its latest foldables that are set to arrive on July 22. The Chosun Daily reports that Samsung will no longer offer free double storage promotions with the next generation of foldables (via Android Authority).
Something is better than nothing
Now, this doesn’t necessarily mean that the promotion is dead. However, it does appear that Samsung will be offering something different for its customers. Reportedly, the new promotion will take 50% off the price of the storage upgrade, meaning you’ll be able to go to a higher model with more storage, and you’ll get a 50% discount on the product.
It’s probably not something customers want to hear ahead of the release of Samsung’s new phones in just a couple of weeks. However, it’s better than getting no discount at all, which is often the case when buying from brands like Apple, Google, OnePlus, and others. While we’ll just have to wait and see what happens, there’s a pretty good chance this change has to do with the rising cost of RAM and storage.
We’ve seen RAM and storage costs rise to never-before-seen heights over the past year. And unfortunately, it doesn’t look like that’s about to change anytime soon. Not only does this affect phones, but it also hits many other categories like tablets, computers, computing products, wearables, and more.
The future looks bleak
Samsung and other brands have done their best to try to mitigate these rising costs for components. While raising prices is easy, consumers aren’t always going to part with their money, especially in this economy. The sad part is that this isn’t something that’s going to change overnight.
We’re more than likely going to have to weather this storm for some time. So, if this all turns out to be true, we should appreciate any discount or promotion that saves us money for the time being. Because the next time Samsung’s phones come around, there may not even be a 50% discount.
