Pixel Watch 5 users report Gemini failures

Another day, another Google product broken. That seems to be the way it goes every so often, so those who rely on Google products shouldn’t really be surprised. However, this latest issue is pretty big. Reports online on Reddit say Gemini is broken on the Pixel Watch 5 (via Android Authority).

Not the problem you want to be having

The problem with Gemini right now on the Pixel Watch 5 is that it’s not responding with any type of meaningful answer when asked. The user on Reddit goes on to share that Gemini responds with “just a speech model and it can’t help me. Or it’s just a text-based program and can’t help me with it.”

Now, if that wasn’t a problem, Gemini apparently can’t even do simple tasks like starting a timer. And, it doesn’t seem like an isolated incident as many others have chimed in with this issue. The good news is that Google has chimed in on the thread, sharing that the issue has been fixed, and the update is now rolling out.

So, if you are experiencing something similar, we highly recommend you update your device.

The update that really matters

The September Pixel Drop just released, bringing a ton of new features and improvements to Pixel devices across the board. And since we’re talking about Pixel Watches, you’ll want to be on the lookout for new enhancements dropping on the Pixel Watch 4, 3, and Pixel Watch 2.

It’s a pretty major update that breathes new life into these older devices, with Gemini Personalization, gesture expansions, and raise to talk improvements. Not all the enhancements will arrive on each watch, but Gemini Personalization will be available on all models. This will allow the watch to pull from new sources to provide a more complete experience.

The Pixel Watch 4 and 3 get an array of new one-handed gestures, while the former will be the sole device in the aforementioned lineup to get raise to talk improvements. You hate to see feature fragmentation, but with certain hardware being a must for these features, it’s inevitable.

With that said, the Pixel Watch 2 is at the end of its life, with support for the watch ending in October 2026. Every Pixel Watch has only received three years of software support, which is quite short. Now, this doesn’t mean the device stops working after the three years, but it does mean that you will no longer get any new features or get security updates.
