While the jailbreak community certainly isn’t bustling with a new jailbreak every few months like the glory days, there are still tons of developers maintaining jailbreaks and tweaks to further the dream.
In this week’s roundup, we share what’s new in the iPhone and iPad jailbreaking communities spanning the week of Monday, August 12th to Sunday, August 18th to help everyone get up to speed with what has been happening lately.
Important stuff from this week
Why jailbreaks don’t launch as frequently today
Many jailbreakers wonder why jailbreaks aren’t released as frequently today as they once were.
This is a consequence of several changes, and we outline most of those in an in-depth piece for your reading pleasure.
QuickSign project teased
QuickSign is an upcoming project that strives to be a free and open-source alternative to ESign, opening the door to on-device app signing with Apple Developer & distribution certificates without the need for a computer or a Wi-Fi connection.
The QuickSign Team has already recruited a lot of talent from the jailbreak community and will open source the project once it nears completion for public use.
In the meantime, you can learn about what this project is in our full news post.
AltStore PAL goes free
For those residing in the European Union, the AltStore PAL platform (an alternate to Apple’s App Store for hosting apps for the iPhone and iPad) is now free for all users.
According to the AltStore Team, this is the result of receiving a MegaGrant from Epic Games, the company that plans to put the Fortnite mobile game on the AltStore PAL platform in the future.

NathanLR semi-jailbreak
NathanLR is a semi-jailbreak and a fork of the Serotonin project that supports iOS & iPadOS 16.5.1-16.6.1 and is capable of running fully rootless jailbreaks.
Moreover, it uses the more stable TrollInstallerX kernel exploit and offers more daemon support than Serotonin, as well as userspace rebooting and other perks.

iOS 17.6 unsigned
Apple just this past week stopped signing iOS & iPadOS 17.6.
This move by the Cupertino-based company prevents anyone who upgraded to the newer iOS or iPadOS 17.6.1 from downgrading to the older iOS or iPadOS 17.6 firmware.
You can learn more about the impact of this change in our full news post.
Kernel Symbolicator for ipsw
Those who rely on reverse engineering to learn more about how something works might be happy to know that ipsw has gained a new Kernel Symbolicator feature.
With this feature, security researchers and developers can use a tool that makes reverse engineering the iOS kernel more accessible.

Andreas Henriksson leaves jailbreaking
Talented iOS developer Andreas Henriksson has decided that they are no longer going to be making public jailbreak tweaks following major life changes and the inability to run jailbreakable firmware following a repair-based forced firmware upgrade.
The developer’s parting gift to the community is that previously paid jailbreak tweaks are now free and that some are even open source for other developers to learn from and improve.

SF Symbols Preview
Theres an SF Symbols app for macOS, so why not for iOS & iPadOS?
With the SF Symbols Preview app, which is available for TrollStore, you can view SF Symbols and use them in other apps for development and design.
You can learn more about SF Symbols Preview in our full review post.
Colorful Wallpaper X
Colorful Wallpaper X is another jailbreak tweak tailored to improving your wallpaper experience on jailbroken handsets.
Made for iPhones and iPads using various types of jailbreaks, this battery-friendly tweak offers animated gradient-based wallpapers that will make your device stand out from the bunch.
You can learn more about Colorful Wallpaper X in our full review post.
LiveContainer
LiveContainer is a utility that effectively lets you virtualize apps within a host app.
Because of this interesting dynamic, you aren’t limited to the number of apps you can ‘sideload’ within it, but you can only run one of those apps at any given time.
You can learn more about LiveContainer and how it works in our full review post.
Epic Games Store launches
The Epic Games Store has officially launched for iOS & Android in the European Union, and Android worldwide, marking an important milestone for alternative app marketplaces on the iOS platform.
Through this marketplace, which offers better commission rates than Apple’s App Store, the company hosts games and apps outside of the proprietary app installation methods that Apple wishes you’d use.
You can learn more about this in our full news post.
TrollStore users successfully installing Fortnite
While Fortnite mobile is only supposed to be available in the European Union via the Epic Games Store and AltStore PAL, many users from around the world are having great success installing it via the TrollStore perma-signing utility.
This process involves installing a decrypted version of the app with TrollStore.
