Private Internet Access (PIA) has the largest network of all the VPNs I tested, with tens of thousands of servers in 91 countries, including Armenia. As you’d expect from a network of that size, server crowding was never an issue during my tests, and I got excellent connection speeds.
To secure your privacy, PIA uses 128-bit AES encryption. It’s turned on by default, but it’s less secure than the highest-security option, 256-bit AES. However, you can get 256-bit AES encryption by changing your preference in the Settings menu. If you decide to go with PIA, I highly suggest you do this.
PIA also has a built-in malware and ad blocker. It blocked various malicious sites and saved me from dealing with annoying ads, even on YouTube — a site where many similar extensions fail to do their job.
PIA’s apps and protocols are 100% open source, which is rare among top VPNs. Open source means anyone is free to inspect its code and see for themselves if PIA is true to its promise of protecting your online privacy.

CyberGhost VPN is great for getting an Armenia IP address thanks to its huge network of servers, including 26 in Armenia. Its speeds aren’t quite as fast ExpressVPN’s, but I still found them to be more than enough to watch HD videos without any buffering or interruptions.
CyberGhost is a high-security VPN that will let you browse confidently, knowing that your data isn’t in danger of being recorded. It uses 256-bit AES encryption, which is the same type of encryption that banks and militaries use. It also has a no-logs policy and is based in Romania, a country with no mandatory data retention laws.
Just like ExpressVPN, CyberGhost runs its own domain name service, so you don’t have to worry about DNS leaks and hijacking. Unlike ExpressVPN, however, it lacks IPv6 and WebRTC leak protection. That said, it automatically disables all IPv6 traffic in the settings tab and provides detailed instructions on how to disable WebRTC on your devices.
Where CyberGhost really shines is in its user-friendliness. With a simple and intuitive interface across all apps, it’s a great option for first-time users. For example, I used it on my iPhone to connect to an Armenian server. The button Select Best Location, which allows you to manually select a server, was right there on the main screen. From there, it took exactly four taps to connect to a Yerevan server of my choice, after which the app automatically switched back to the main screen.

Surfshark is a secure VPN with 3,200+ servers in 100 countries, including Armenia. All the servers are RAM-only — there’s no hard disk to store information on once the server is shut down. Plus, they all have their own private domain name systems, so your DNS queries will be handled by Surfshark, thus avoiding DNS leaks. As always, your speeds will depend on how physically close you are to the server you’re connecting to. I tested Surfshark from Belgrade, which is not that far away from Armenia, and the speeds were really good, but my colleagues who tested from distant countries did report significant lags. So, in terms of speed, ExpressVPN might be a better choice.
Surfshark also offers a decent ad blocker called CleanWeb. It will save both your mobile data and your nerves from ads you don’t want to see and cookie pop-up requests. Plus, it offers decent protection against phishing attempts.
Surfshark boasts excellent security, confirmed by independent audits. It not only has a zero-logs policy, a kill switch, and 256-bit AES encryption, but it also offers special features such as Dynamic MultiHop (connects you to the internet via two servers of your choice, minimizing tracking risk), IP Rotator (periodically changes your IP address), and Camouflage Mode (hides the fact you’re using a VPN).

You can also use Surfshark for streaming and torrenting. It works with most popular streaming platforms. Its Armenian servers allow P2P torrenting, but if you want advanced torrenting features like port forwarding (which speeds up your downloads by letting you connect to more peers), you’re better off with Private Internet Access.
