Last month, Google was spotted internally testing out a redesign for the Pixel Launcher’s exclusive At a Glance widget (SmartSpace). That redesign is now starting to come to life.
For those unaware, the launcher’s widget highlights contextual information from 19 different categories, including Doorbell, Weather, Fitness, Alerts, and more. As of right now, this information is presented as plain text on the top left of the screen. That could change with the upcoming ‘Gemini Space’ redesign.
Comparable to Samsung’s Now Bar, which shows contextual information on your Galaxy device, the redesigned Gemini Space UI will appear across the home screen, lock screen, and Always on Display, as confirmed by the folks over at Android Authority.
Spotted and manually activated in the latest Android Canary build, the tool will use “info from your phone and your activity in Google products” to highlight relevant information. Live sports scores, and birthday reminders, for example, will provide both timely and relevant information at once in a swipeable layout.
More features on the way
The tool’s setting will offer a customization option that will let users tweak “the types of updates and info that At a Glance shows.”
Once actually available, this should include options to toggle on relevant financial information as well, paired with the recently-discovered ‘Daily Hub,’ which is reported to be a “space for content and suggestions to simplify your day.” This is expected to be similar to Samsung’s Now Brief implementation, which provides AI-powered briefings of relevant content in a personalized manner.
For what it’s worth, both Finance and Daily Hub are still in development and can’t be enabled. We’re expecting to see the redesigned At a Glance UI debut with the Pixel 10 series, giving Google a little under or a little over a month (depending on the launch event date) to polish the experience.
