Google Meet finally fixes one of its biggest issues with a new Chat integration

The popularity of online meeting apps burgeoned after the pandemic, and they have now become a significant part of how we work and communicate. The demand has also led to companies adding more useful new features to stand out from the competition. Google is no different, as it continues to improve Google Meet by adding new features and improvements to get more users on board.

Google’s latest attempt is making the online meeting experience more organized and less stressful. And the Mountain View tech giant wants to achieve it by integrating one of its other services into Google Meet. The company believes it’ll increase team productivity, though it won’t be available for everyone.

Google Meet is getting a new Chat integration, but who can use it?

An official update from the Google Workspace team suggests that Google Meet’s in-meeting chat messages will now be powered by Google Chat. While this appears to be a behind-the-scenes change, it has serious impacts on the end users.

One of the biggest benefits of the Google Chat integration is that all those messages, links, and other resources that were shared during the meeting will now be accessible in a shared Google Chat conversation after the meeting is over. Not only that, but meeting attendees will also be able to ‘respond to messages with emojis, and share images and files directly in Google Meet.’

This is a solid effort in consolidating all your resources into one place, making it easier for you to find them. This way, if you want to ask a follow-up question after the meeting is over, the new Chat integration will make it a lot easier. According to Google, this was the primary goal: improve post-meeting follow-through.

However, this isn’t always helpful. And if you feel the same about a particular meeting, you can turn off “continuous meeting chat.” When disabled, the in-meeting messages for that meeting won’t be linked to Google Chat. In that case, to access those messages, you’ll have to do it the old way of recording the meeting.

As for who’ll get it, only Google Workspace business and enterprise customers will benefit if they have one of the following plans:

• Enterprise Starter, Enterprise Standard, Enterprise Plus
• Business Starter, Business Standard, Business Plus
• Frontline Starter, Frontline Standard, Frontline Plus

Google will start rolling out the new Google Chat integration to organizations on the “Rapid Release domains” from November 10, 2025. And for those that are on the “Scheduled release domains,” Google will start rolling out the change on December 3, 2025. The new Google Chat integration may take a few more days from the official rollout date to show up on your device.
