Dopamine jailbreak lead developer Lars Fröder (@opa334dev) released a major update to the tool on Tuesday, coined version 2.1 with official A8(X) device support and a long list of changes, but as you might come to expect from such a large update, it wasn’t long before a subsequent bug fix update would make the books.
In a post shared to X (formerly Twitter) Tuesday evening, Fröder shared an updated build of the Dopamine jailbreak dubbed version 2.1.1 with another handful of bug fixes, noting that “it’s very hard to make a Dopamine major release without regressions.”
Citing the change log for Dopamine v2.1.1, this build introduces the following bug fixes and improvements:
– Fix codesigning bypass failing on binaries/libraries that have an armv7s slice (Fixes Designer not working) [2.1 regression]
– Fix sharing files to jailbreak apps not working in some instances [2.1 regression]
– Fix string corruption in sandbox bypass, the fact I never noticed this before means it probably wasn’t that bad of an issue (don’t use strcat on uninitialized stack buffers!)
If you’re a Dopamine jailbreak user already, then this update is highly recommended since it helps address bugs that could have resulted in a less than optimal user experience.
Existing users can upgrade to the latest version of the Dopamine jailbreak directly from the Dopamine app via the built-in over-the-air updating mechanism. It’s also possible to download the latest version from the project’s GitHub page and perma-sign it over your existing installation with TrollStore. A userspace reboot will be required in both cases to update the jailbreak environment.
If you aren’t already using the Dopamine jailbreak, then you’ll be happy to know it’s extremely easy to get started, assuming you have a compatible device. We have a step-by-step tutorial outlining how to use the Dopamine jailbreak, and it supports the following device and firmware combinations:
- iOS & iPadOS 15.0-16.6.1 on A8-A11 devices
- iOS & iPadOS 15.0-16.5.1 and 16.6 betas 1-4 on A12-A14 & M1 devices
- iOS & iPadOS 15.0-16.5 and 16.6 betas 1-4 on A15-A16 & M2 devices
Due to supporting many of the same iOS & iPadOS versions that TrollStore does, the Dopamine jailbreak is a very special form of semi-untethered jailbreak that remains signed on your device indefinitely, allowing you to easily return to a jailbreak without a computer after every reboot. This is different from other semi-untethered jailbreaks in the past that had to be sideloaded with a computer once the seven-day signing period passed.
