If you’re on the beta track, you’re going to be happy to know that a new release has just dropped, with QPR1 Beta 6 arriving on compatible Pixel phones. Perhaps one of the biggest pieces of news from this release is that Android 17 QPR1 has reached platform stability, meaning that developers will now be able to make updates to their app with certainty that it won’t break with the public release.
In addition, developers can “now incorporate new Android 17 QPR1 capabilities” into their apps as well. If you’re curious, you can check out the full notes on the developer website, with this version coming in as CP31.260618.005. So far, QPR1 is turning out to be a solid release, with plenty of great features. Most recently, it was discovered that Pixel phones would be getting a background shuffle feature.

Furthermore, Google has shared that some bugs have been fixed with this new release:
- Users were unable to select multiple spell checker languages. (Issue #147312111)
- Pressing the device volume buttons within the Clock app failed to trigger the expected user interface actions. (Issue #527400457, Issue #527395501, Issue #524895625)
- Rapidly swiping through the media carousel caused visual glitches in the Quick Settings layout and settings icon by improving animation and layout state handling during rapid transitions. (Issue #514947195)
- An issue in WindowManagerGlobal that resulted in app crashes. (Issue #516639947)
- Enabling the Wi-Fi hotspot displayed a generic default SSID instead of the user’s saved custom name. (Issue #485168823)
Per usual, if you’re interested in trying out this latest beta, you’ll need to enroll in the Android Beta Program. You can register if you have a Pixel 6 and newer. Of course, since this is a beta, things can go wrong during the installation process and during use. So, it’s recommended to proceed with caution if you’re using your daily phone.
If you’re not ready to run into issues, we recommend holding off until a public version is released. The good news is that you most likely won’t have to wait all that long for this to happen. While there isn’t a solid date announced, many are speculating that the update will arrive in September.
