Summary

  • AccuWeather for Android has been revamped with a more vibrant interface and improved readability across the board.
  • The update includes colorful weather icons, translucent background cards, and refreshed tab bar icons and menu options.
  • To access the new version, users need the latest beta, available through the Google Play beta program as well as APKMirror.

AccuWeather is one of the best weather apps available without a doubt, offering a more interactive interface than the ones that typically come preinstalled on your phone. It is great at delivering hyper-local forecasts down to the last minute. However, the current version of the app feels rather plain, with a monotone interface on a background that mimics real-time weather conditions. AccuWeather is now bringing some life back to its Android app by introducing a more vibrant interface in the latest beta.

Android Police tipster Moshe noticed that the AccuWeather app for Android has received a major facelift after installing its latest beta version. The redesign starts right from the homepage and extends across all major tabs in the app — Today, Hourly, Daily, and Radar & Maps. A side-by-side comparison of the old and new designs (shown below) reveals a noticeably more colorful interface, with elements now placed on top of large, translucent cards, including the current weather wheel.

Beyond the layout, text too now appears with better contrast, improving readability. Weather icons have also been updated, switching from hollow white outlines to colorful, filled-in graphics. The main tab bar features refreshed icons as well, and the top hamburger menu has been moved to the right. Even the AccuWeather logo is now larger, while the location selector comes in a pill-shaped picker with generous padding around it.

The air quality chart and allergen outlook have received the same vibrant treatment, and so has the maps view. Overall, everything feels more lively and dynamic, thanks to the splash of color spread throughout the interface.

How to get the revamped AccuWeather app on Android

As mentioned earlier, this redesign is currently part of the latest beta version of the AccuWeather app for Android. You’ll need to be on version 21.0.9 to see the changes — but there’s a catch. The Google Play beta program for AccuWeather is full, so while existing beta testers can download the update, new sign-ups aren’t allowed at the moment.

Don’t worry if you’re unable to join the beta via the Play Store — there’s another way to try it out. This beta version is already available on APKMirror, where you can download and test it manually. Since it’s a split APK, be sure to use the APKMirror Installer to get it running on your Android device.

Thanks: Moshe!
