Galaxy S27 Ultra leak reveals the 7,000mAh battery Samsung reportedly rejected

Samsung used to really push the limits with its phones. But it’s been pretty reserved ever since the 2016 battery failure incident. That event was huge and severely damaged the company’s reputation. Even after ten years, it’s easy to see why the company still isn’t trying to push battery boundaries like its competitors.

Luckily, the brand is starting to move a little, debuting silicon-carbon anode batteries in some of its latest phones. There have been reports on what to expect from the Galaxy S27 Ultra, expected to debut next year, but it looks like the brand experimented with a 7,000mAh battery in this device at some point.

We’d love it if it happened

This information comes from X user Kro and was picked up by the folks at Android Authority. Apparently, Samsung was testing S27 Ultra models without an S Pen and with a large 7,000mAh battery. Ditching the S Pen for a way bigger battery? I think most people would be okay with that, to be honest.

Sadly, it doesn’t look like that’s going to be the final model coming to retail shelves. According to Kro, Samsung is reportedly aiming for a 5,700mAh or 6,000mAh battery in the Galaxy S27 Ultra. It will likely use silicon-carbon anode technology, which the brand used in its Fold 8 devices this year.

Since the Galaxy S20 Ultra, Samsung has stuck with a 5,000mAh battery in its flagship phones. It’s also been more reserved about offering faster charging speeds. You wouldn’t really blink an eye in the US market, but overseas competitors like Oppo, Xiaomi, and Vivo are pushing the upper limits.

We’re seeing batteries hitting 7,300mAh and charging speeds that reach up to 240W. Sure, you can go with some lesser-known brands, and those phones will pack 33,000mAh batteries, but it’s not something you’re going to carry around with you all day.

A drastic change

Perhaps the most interesting news about the Galaxy S27 Ultra is its revamped design. Naturally, Samsung has not confirmed anything yet, but this comes from a pretty reliable source. It ditches the camera setup that we have grown used to and swaps it out for something familiar.

It’s not a Samsung thing, but it looks closer to the design that its competitor is using. Looks are always subjective, but I think it’s a nice change. We just hope that the cameras get a bigger boost than what we’ve seen in the past. Samsung typically announces its Galaxy S series devices in January.
