Continuing its impressive One UI 8 rollout pace, Samsung has now pushed the stable update live for the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Flip 4. Their stable Android 16 firmware has dropped just a day after the Galaxy S22 received its One UI 8 firmware in Europe.
The Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Flip 4’s IYIF firmware is currently live in parts of Asia, Africa, and Europe (via @SamMobile). While the update is not yet live in the US, this will change in the coming days or weeks.
The 3GB+ One UI 8 build is based on Android 16 and packs several minor but important usability improvements. Besides revamped system apps, like Quick Share, Reminders, and Weather, One UI 8 enhances the DeX experience on external monitors with a new split-screen view and additional rotation controls.
Secure Folder gets some much-needed improvements, too, and can now hide apps and notifications for protected apps.
One UI 8 is the last major update for Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Flip 4
Samsung promises four years of OS updates and five years of security patches for its 2022 foldables, the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Flip 4. This means, like the Galaxy S22, Android 16 is the last major OS update for these foldables, as they launched with Android 12 out of the box. Going forward, the company will only release quarterly security patches for them.
If you use a Fold 4 or Flip 4, this news might disappoint you. However, Samsung is the only company to have updated its foldables from a few years ago to Android 16.
There’s no word on when Chinese foldables, which launched in 2022, will get a taste of Android 16. If anything, this shows Samsung’s excellent software support and how quickly it rolls out major OS releases to its devices.
One UI 7 was the only exception to this, but the company has made up for that delay with One UI 8’s swift rollout. It’s commendable to see Samsung rolling out One UI 8 to all its premium devices from 2022 to 2025 within just a few weeks.
