To say that Apple has struggled to keep up in the era of generative AI would be an understatement. At this point, Android’s Gemini assistant is running laps around Siri, yet Apple’s digital sidekick is reportedly still two years away from taking its next big step.

With the Pixel 10 due out in just over two weeks, Google took to Twitter/X to stir up a little controversy while promoting its new phone. In a new teaser video that mirrors the aesthetic of the one posted to the Google Store last month, we see the Pixel 10 Pro in silhouette as subtle reflections of light gently hug its curves.

But it’s not the phone that stands out here — rather, it’s Google’s implicit shot at Apple’s botched rollout of its new and improved Siri.

‘Get outside your comfort phone’

The post is clearly geared towards iPhone users who have an envious eye on Android’s AI prowess, with Google inviting people to “Get outside your comfort phone.” But the overlaid text and accompanying narration take things a step further, saying “If you buy a new phone because of a feature that’s coming soon, but it’s been a full year, you could change your definition of ‘soon’ or you could just change your phone.”

The “full year” line is a reference to Apple’s new Siri, powered by Apple Intelligence, which was originally announced in June 2024. The upgraded assistant was supposed to be available to beta testers last fall, but delays have plagued the project, with Apple amending its timeline to state that updates will come in phases “over the next year.” Reports have since indicated that the most advanced features might not be fully available until 2027.

You could change your definition of ‘soon’ or you could just change your phone

The video ends with a date: August 20th, 2025. This is two weeks from Wednesday, which is when the Pixel 10 series will go official at the next Made By Google event.

As for the phone itself, not much is shown in the teaser, but leaks have already spoiled the full design. Just today, renders showcased the Pixel 10 and Pixel 10 Pro from all angles, and this came after a separate hands-on leak gave us a look at the 10 Pro in the flesh.

We’ve even seen the expected pricing for Google’s entire Pixel 10 lineup, including one new variant that cracks the $2,000 mark for the first time. Some of the phone’s finer details were revealed last week by a reputable source, including built-in magnets for true, MagSafe-like charging via Qi2.

At this point, the only things left to learn from the event on August 20th might all be software-related — but with Pixels leaning so heavily into AI features, that might actually be a lot.
