The Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase wasn’t the only game-revealing livestream today. EA and Battlefield Studios finally gave us a deeper look at Battlefield 6 during a multiplayer reveal event this afternoon. Additionally, we learned the first-person shooter game’s release date and when a multiplayer beta for the game will be held.

This all comes after EA and Battlefield Studios — a coalition of EA subsidiaries DICE, Ripple Effect, Motive, and Criterion — first teased Battlefield 6 with a cinematic trailer last week. Now that we’ve seen some gameplay, it looks like Battlefield 6 will deliver the impressive scale of both battles and destruction that the series is known for.

When is Battlefield 6’s release date?

And when can we expect an open beta?

The release date of Battlefield 6 is confirmed to be October 10. Before then, there will be three free open beta windows in which it’s possible to try the game early. The first takes place between August 7 and August 8, and is for Battlefield Labs members and those who earn access by watching those streamers.

Weekend one of completely open access will then take place on August 9 and 10. Finally, another open beta weekend playtest will take place between August 14 and August 17.

The reveal event also gave us our deepest look at the maps, mechanics, and setting yet. It was confirmed that Battlefield 6 takes place in 2027, and players will be fighting in locations like Cairo, Gibraltar, and Brooklyn. Overall, there will be nine maps in the game at launch, one of which is a remake of Operation Firestorm from Battlefield 3.

Players will be able to choose from the Assault, Recon, Engineer, and Support classes, each of which comes with class-unique weapons, gadgets, and traits. The following modes were also confirmed for multiplayer:

  • Conquest
  • Breakthrough
  • Rush
  • Team Deathmatch
  • Squad Deathmatch
  • Domination
  • King of the Hill
  • Escalation

Battlefield’s Portal mode has been expanded, so players have more control over the creation of custom game modes. Battlefield Studios is also already promising that more modes and maps will come to the game via post-launch updates, which is standard practice for modern multiplayer shooters.

So far, I think everything we’ve seen of Battlefield 6 looks great. The series has definitely faced some stumbles with the underwhelming Battlefield 2042 and the cancellation of Battlefield Mobile. Hopefully, this new game will get everything back on track.
