The Ugreen MagFlow Magnetic Power Bank is the first wireless charging power bank to receive official Qi 2.2 certification from the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC), and while you’ll be able to buy it in the near future, we’re still waiting for the first Android phones to support the new standard.
What’s the difference between Qi2 and Qi 2.2? The biggest update for most people will be the potential to reach up to 50W of charging power, up from the 15W of the Qi2 standard, plus enhanced magnets to improve device stability. The higher speeds and stronger magnets are backed up by efficiency improvements, potentially lowering temperatures and charging times. Qi 2.2. chargers will be backward compatible, but devices not certified for Qi 2.2 charging won’t benefit from all the upgrades.
Ugreen’s fancy Qi 2.2 power bank has a 10,000mAh cell inside and will top out at 25W wireless charging, plus there’s a built-in USB-C charging cable if your phone doesn’t have wireless charging. There’s a handy side-mounted display to show the amount of charge remaining in the battery pack, along with an extra USB-C port to charge another device too.
When will the charger and Qi 2.2 arrive?
Sounds good, right? Unfortunately, there are a few problems. The first is device compatibility, because Qi 2.2 is still being standardized, and there are no official Qi 2.2 smartphones available at the moment. It’s likely the forthcoming Apple iPhone 17 series will take advantage of the MagFlow Magnetic Power Bank’s faster charging speeds, and it should work with the existing Apple iPhone 16 series too.
What about Android phones? Seeing as the Qi2 standard still hasn’t seen wide adoption, it may be a while before a phone arrives with Qi 2.2 compatibility. The HMD Skyline is the only Android phone with full Qi2 support, while the Samsung Galaxy S25 series and the OnePlus 13 are described as Qi 2 Ready, but lack the strong magnets to make the most of the standard. There are rumors the Google Pixel 10 series will support Qi2, and even come with an official line of accessories, plus Samsung appears to be investigating adding full Qi2 support in the future.
Ugreen has not finalized the cost or release date of the MagFlow Magnetic Power Bank yet, but it’s expected to be released between now and September, likely to fit in with the iPhone 17’s launch.
