For as long as I have been jailbreaking iPhones, and that’s well over a decade now, users have been using jailbreak tweaks to expand the number of app icons that they can fit in the Home Screen’s Dock from just four to at least five, or more.
That’s why when I see a newly released jailbreak tweak called FiveDock16 by iOS developer P2KDev, it evokes a feeling of nostalgia, especially given just how stagnant things have been in the jailbreak community lately with me thinking back on better and more lively times.
Just as the name suggests, this no-frills jailbreak tweak merely unlocks the ability to have five app icons in the Home Screen’s Dock, as depicted in the screenshot above.
As you’d come to expect, you can drag and drop the fifth app icon into the Dock after installation. It’s worth noting, however, that the Dock doesn’t auto-snap app icons to the center when only displaying four of them; rather, all app icons align to the left and the tweak leaves an empty spot to the far right until you fill it up.
With no options to configure, there’s nothing more to see here besides unlocked capabilities that make me question why Apple hasn’t enabled such a feature on stock devices yet. After all, five app icons fill up the empty space in the Home Screen’s Dock quite nicely, so it seems like a given that people would use and enjoy it.
Those wanting to give the FiveDock16 jailbreak tweak a try can download it for free from P2KDev’s personal repository via their favorite package manager app. The tweak supports jailbroken iOS 15 and 16 devices.
