Many modern package managers for jailbroken handsets can help users discern what their most recently-installed packages are, but these users would be hard-pressed to find a running history of what you’ve recently installed, uninstalled, or modified all in one convenient place, if at all.
That’s precisely why iOS developer Pixelomer created a new free jailbreak app dubbed PkgHistory, which as the name implies, keeps a running history of everything mentioned above so you can have a better idea of your package history.
In the screenshot example below, you’ll see how the app conveniently shows you everything that was recently installed, uninstalled, or modified on your jailbroken device:
In this case, we’ve installed and uninstalled a jailbreak tweak, as well as downgraded and upgraded an essential package. Downgrades and upgrades appear as “modified” in this list along with an indicator describing the version number(s) involved in the modification, whereas installs and uninstalls are specifically spelled out.
PkgHistory doesn’t come with any other features or options to configure apart from what’s shown above, making it short, sweet, and to the point. Furthermore, the app appears to support iOS 13’s native dark mode out of the box, with a matching light interface if you don’t use dark mode.
So what would something like this be useful for? Mostly for obtaining a better understanding of what’s happening on your device, whether you’re trying to troubleshoot problems with packages or discern whether someone has installed or uninstalled packages on your device without your permission. We think this app will mostly benefit power users.
