Despite being shut down more than a year ago, the Apollo Reddit client remains somewhat active today by jailbreakers to couple hacks and a Reddit API key to trick Reddit’s servers into allowing the app to work.
But as lots of people noticed this week, many of those hacks stopped working after Reddit apparently blocked Apollo’s user agent to crack down on this. So iOS developers are getting crafty… again.
In a post shared to 𝕏 (formerly Twitter), iOS developer ichitaso said that their popular ApolloPatcher jailbreak tweak has been updated to version 0.0.9 to randomize the Apollo app’s user agent, which should address the latest issue.
By randomizing the user agent, Reddit should have a much harder time distinguishing hacked Apollo Reddit clients from anything else, and this will make it tougher for them to block users from accessing the platform via their Apollo app.
For those unaware of how to hack the Apollo app to keep running it even today amid all Reddit’s nonsense, we have a step-by-step tutorial that shows you how to do exactly this.
As for the ApolloPatcher jailbreak tweak, it can be acquired for free from Ichitaso’s personal repository and supports all modern jailbreaks, including the rootless variety. If you’re not already taking advantage of Ichitaso’s personal repository, then you can add it to your package manager app of choice by using the URL provided below:

ApolloPatcher is also on the developer’s GitHub page for anyone interested in learning more about how it works.
As a longtime fan of the Apollo Reddit client, I was upset when Reddit forced me to use their first-party app. In fact, I still haven’t really gotten used to using the regular app, as it doesn’t support the workflows I always depended on like Apollo did. I find myself using Reddit less because of it.
