NotificationsGroupCount brings iOS 18’s grouped and counted notification stacks to jailbroken devices

One of the features that I’ve come to appreciate about iOS 18 is how missed notifications on the Lock Screen stack and the software intelligently displays a count for missed notifications for each app.

But what if we told you that you didn’t have to upgrade to iOS 18 to enjoy this feature? That’s right folks — iOS developer 0xkuj has released a new jailbreak tweak called NotificationsGroupCount that brings a similar feature to jailbroken iOS 15 and 16 devices.

As you can see for yourself in the screenshot examples above, a count much like what you’d see on an iOS 18 device now accompanies grouped missed notifications on your pwned handset, making it easier to ascertain what you’ve missed.

As you might come to expect, however, NotificationsGroupCount actually does this better than the stock iOS 18 operating system does, and that’s because it offers customization and features that aren’t available on a vanilla device. You’ll find those options in a dedicated preference pane post-installation:

Among the different features that you can customize here are:

  • Toggling NotificationsGroupCount on or off on demand
  • Choosing custom colors for the background and text:
    • Utilizing a Lock Screen wallpaper-based color
    • Using an app icon-based color
  • Adjusting the badge shadow value via a slider
  • Restoring all options to their defaults
  • Respringing your device to save any changes you’ve made

Those wanting to upgrade their notification experience on their jailbroken iOS 15 or 16 device, whether it’s running a rootless or a rootful jailbreak, can do so today by purchasing the tweak for $1.49 from the YouRepo repository via any package manager app.

But for those who have the skill to compile and install the tweak themselves, the developer has open-sourced the tweak on GitHub for anyone who wants to learn more about how it works.

Do you plan to take advantage of NotificationsGroupCount? Let us know why or why not in the comments section down below.
