It may be hard to believe, but YouTube Music has been around for ten years now. And since its release, the service has evolved quite a bit, becoming one of the more popular options in 2025. With that said, YouTube Music is getting a nice update today, moving Search to the bottom bar, making it more convenient to find the music you love.
This is a change that we’ve seen in many apps over the past few years, bringing frequently accessed menu items closer to the bottom of the phone, where the thumbs naturally reside. The update was spotted by 9to5Google, but doesn’t appear to be a wide rollout yet. You can always update the app to see whether you’re one of the lucky few to see the change, otherwise, you’re going to have to wait it out.
A small change with huge impact
In addition to the new change, the Search section now appears to take the place of the Explore category as well, which no longer has its own section in the app with the latest update. So, whether you’re looking to search for new music, or find something new by exploring what YouTube Music has curated, the new Search is going to be where you’ll find both options.
YouTube Music also added a new double tap action as well, which will now bring up the keyboard in Search, allowing you to find new music. As you can imagine, this is going to be quite convenient, removing the need to head to the top of the page when you want to type in a new search.
Of course, if you want, that’s still an option, but it is going to be less convenient, considering that the search icon has moved to the bottom. Again, if you’re interested in taking a look, you can always give YouTube Music an update to see if it’s available. Since this isn’t a wide rollout yet, there’s a pretty good chance that a majority won’t see it right now, but it’s something to keep an eye out for.
