YouTube Music may not be as popular as Spotify, but it’s definitely getting there as more users adopt Google’s audio streaming service. While the app lacked some features initially, it is now robust enough to become your daily music streaming app.

A big part of music streaming apps like Spotify and Apple Music is their ability to help you discover new songs, with YouTube Music also offering similar features through its mobile apps. Well, it looks like the streaming platform may take discovery a step further with a forthcoming update.

This revelation comes courtesy of a Reddit user, who spotted a horizontally scrollable carousel titled “Your daily discover” on YouTube Music for iOS. What makes it stand out from standard mixes and auto-created playlists on YouTube Music is its size.

In addition to the enormous album art instantly grabbing your attention while scrolling, there’s text at the bottom explaining why it’s being suggested, such as “Because you liked” and “For fans of,” followed by the name of the artist.

A nice addition to the platform’s existing music discovery features

Screenshots further show that this carousel could be positioned above the current “Trending songs for you” section/list, though it could likely end up somewhere else on the feed when it is widely released. There’s also a “Play all” button just above the album cover, which can also be found across other playlists and carousels on YouTube Music.

It’s worth noting that the “Your daily discover” carousel was also spotted running on YouTube Music for Android last month, so it’s clear that the team is not far away from unleashing this carousel on both major smartphone platforms. Meanwhile, a user’s query on the YouTube Music support page from early July speaks of this carousel’s sudden disappearance, suggesting that it’s been more widely available than we thought (via Android Authority).

Some aspects of this carousel are still unknown, including the total number of items users can scroll through, or if there will even be a limit at all. It will also be interesting to see what happens to the existing “Discover Mix” playlist that can be found under the “Mixed for you” carousel on YouTube Music. We don’t expect “Your daily discover” to replace “Discover Mix,” which was launched all the way back in 2019.
