Jailbreakers who want another level of customization in the official YouTube app might take interest in a newly released and free jailbreak tweak called YouSlider by iOS developer PoomSmart.
This add-on, which targets the progress slider that appears when viewing videos in the YouTube app, allows end users to customize this particular facet of the user interface with things such as custom colors, sizes, and images, among other things.
As you can see in the screenshot examples above, we’ve replaced the native YouTube progress slider’s colors so that the scrubber is orange instead of red and so that the completed portion of the progress bar is green instead of red. Moreover, the size of the slider is now larger than it would be normally, while also being square instead of round.
Upon installing YouSlider and force-quitting and re-launching the YouTube app, you will find a new preference pane in the Settings page of the YouTube app for YouSlider that you can go into to configure the tweak to your liking. As depicted above, there are a lot of different things you can change, including the following:
- Toggling YouSlider on or off on demand
- Toggling changing the slider color on or off on demand
- Choosing a slider color
- Toggling changing the scrubber color on or off on demand
- Choosing a scrubber color
- Toggling using a custom scrubber image on or off on demand
- Importing a scrubber image
- Viewing a preview of your current scrubber image
- Increasing the Scrubber size (up to 50% larger)
- And more…
YouSlider is a fun way to make the YouTube app more personal by changing a small detail that you’re likely to interface with on a daily basis, especially if you watch a lot of videos. We like the fact that you can set a custom image as the slider, because if you think that merely changing the colors looks ugly, you can use any image you want instead.
Those interested in giving the YouSlider jailbreak tweak a try can currently download it for free from PoomSmart’s personal repository via their favorite package manager app. The tweak supports the latest version of the YouTube app at the time of this writing but please note that any future updates could potentially break the tweak.
