NotebookLM is by far one of the best AI apps from Google. After initially debuting as a web service, the company launched dedicated mobile apps to make accessing it easier. Still, given its usefulness, accessing your notebooks from NotebookLM is not as easy as it should be. But Google seemingly wants to change that by integrating NotebookLM directly with the Gemini app.

As spotted by TestingCatalog, Google is testing a way to import your NotebookLM notebooks into Gemini. This would let you access or reference NotebookLM content directly from Gemini. At the moment, Gemini can only pull information from other Google services like Drive, Docs, Gmail, Maps, and Calendar. As part of the integration, the ‘+’ menu in Gemini will also gain a NotebookLM button.

Ideally, it would be great if Google integrated NotebookLM to Gemini in the same way as its Keep and other services. That way, if I’m researching something in Gemini and find something useful, I can simply ask it to save the conversation to a specific notebook. Or, when in a conversation with Gemini, I can ask it to reference a specific notebook in NotebookLM to pull more details.

Given that NotebookLM is a learning tool, this is the Gemini integration it needs.

So far, Alexey Shabanov from Testing Catalog has only found code changes in Gemini pointing to NotebookLM import support. There’s no clarity on how the option would work. And this also means that NotebookLM integration in Gemini is unlikely to roll out anytime soon.

Whenever Google pushes this integration live, though, you should see the NotebookLM option in Gemini’s settings and the ‘+’ menu.

NotebookLM keeps getting better

Google recently added Google Drive support in NotebookLM, letting the tool use a Drive folder as an information source while also expanding support for more file types, including Google Sheets, Word, and Drive URLs.

It also brought Gemini’s full one-million token context window into NotebookLM’s chat, alongside speed improvements. Plus, the new Deep Research feature turns the tool into a dedicated researcher that can browse the web and generate detailed reports for you.

Admittedly, Gemini integration would be one of the most useful upgrades NotebookLM could get.
