Google Slides has been slowly progressing to offer more and more tools and features over the past year. And while things are pretty good, it can always be better, especially when new AI tools are involved. While Slides already have the ability to remove backgrounds from images using AI, you can now do so much more thanks to a new udpate.

You’ll now have the option to generate a new background for your images using AI. Just select the option, punch in your prompt, and Google Slides will create a new background. Google offers a few suggestions on how to use this feature, like adding a gorgeous backdrop to a stale product shot, improving employee headshots, or adapting slides to better suit the clients’ needs.

In addition to the above, Slides will now also be able to expand the backgrounds you’re using in your presentations using AI as well. This will allow users to “resize and reframe visuals” according to Google, providing more flexibility when using media in Slides. The great part is that you’ll have the option to expand the image in a number of ways, allowing you to create the perfect image.

These same features will also land on Google Vids as well. Rapid Release domains should have already started seeing this update, but the features are now rolling out in full to all users. Of course, you will still need to have access to Gemini on your Google account to see these new features, which means a Google AI Pro or AI Ultra account, Gemini Education or Gemini Education Premium.

It will also be available to Business Standard and Plus, along with Enterprise Standard and Plus users. You can check out Google Slides on the web, or download the app to your favorite Android device. Although Slides might not be a huge focus for Google, the brand has made efforts to improve the experience with plenty of new additions in 2025.

It got a UI refresh and also added a batch of new slides as well. If you’ve never given it a try, we recommend checking it out. It can be an extremely useful tool if you’re someone that delivers presentations frequently, and it’s a fairly powerful and free alternative to Microsoft’s PowerPoint software.
