Updates to meowbrek2 palera1n semi-untethering utility improve support for 4k Apple devices & more…

Around a week ago, we shared the news about a breakthrough new tool called meowbrek2 by iOS developer @dora2ios that could effectively turn the semi-tethered palera1n jailbreak for arm64 devices running iOS 15-16 into a semi-untethered jailbreak by making use of the kfd exploit.

With it, upon jailbreaking semi-tethered with palera1n at least once, a user could perma-sign the meowbrek2 utility with TrollStore and run it on their jailbroken device to remove the requirement to use a computer to boot into a jailbroken state after every reboot.

This incredible utility commands a lot more attention than it actually received, and for that reason, we’re excited to talk about some recent updates that improve upon the initial release.

Citing the text document that @dora2ios typically references when announcing new updates via X (formerly Twitter), the tool has thus far received the following updates:

Version 1.1.2-beta

– Added unsupported old rootless path detection

Version 1.1.2-beta-4ktest

– Added testing to support 4k devices

Version 1.1.2-beta-4ktest2

– Fixed a problem that caused overflow when the trustcache allocation filled the entire page

While the first update improved upon jailbreak detection, it’s worth noting that all subsequent updates thus far have focused primarily on improved support for 4k devices — a smaller subset of older iPhones and iPads supported by palera1n, and subsequently, the checkm8 bootrom exploit.

If you’re taking advantage of the meowbrek2 utility to make your palera1n jailbreak install semi-untethered, then it’s a good idea to keep up with the latest updates.

If you aren’t using the meowbrek2 utility, and you’re interested in getting started with it, then you can head over to the project’s GitHub page to learn more.
