Unc0ver picks up support for ‘Sock Puppet’ exploit, now supports up to iOS 12.2

In what could only be described as a surprising treat for the jailbreak community, Pwn20wnd released unc0ver v3.3.0 betas 1 and 2 to the general public on Thursday with official support for all firmware versions up to iOS 12.2. This means that in addition to the previously-supported iOS 11.0-12.1.2, unc0ver now supports iOS versions 12.1.3, 12.1.4, and 12.2.

Pwn20wnd announced the updated unc0ver jailbreak tool just this afternoon, adding that it takes full advantage of @NedWilliamson’s tfp0 exploit, which has been subtly named ‘Sock Puppet’ by its creator:

Citing Pwn20wnd’s official GitHub repository, unc0ver v3.3.0 betas 1 and 2 bring the following changes:

07/11/2019 – v3.3.0~b1 was released for public testing with the following changes:

– Add the Sock Puppet exploit for iOS 12.0-12.2 support on A7-A11 devices

– Remove the empty_list and multi_path exploits

– Replace the kernel exploit segmented switch with picker view

– Add code substitution platform picker view

07/11/2019 – v3.3.0~b2 was released for public testing with the following changes:

– Fix all preferences being off by default

From what we can gather, the Sock Puppet exploit is intended to work on all A7-A11 devices, and so naturally, it excludes A12(X) devices. In a follow-up Tweet, Pwn20wnd added that the exploit appears to be broken on 4K devices (namely the A7 and A8 varieties) at the time of this writing, but he is looking into fixing this.

While the addition of this new exploit is wonderful news for potential jailbreakers who’ve been waiting for the opportunity to pwn their devices, Pwn20wnd does note that the Sock Puppet exploit brings with it some “reliability” issues. Unfortunately, he won’t be able to do much about this, as it’s par for the course for this particular exploit.

Like all previous versions of the unc0ver jailbreak tool, unc0ver v3.3.0 beta 2 is available to download from Pwn20wnd’s official GitHub repository. Please note, however, that this is a pre-release intended for public testing, and that it’s not an official public release at the time of this writing. With that in mind, you can expect bugs and/or instabilities, and for that reason, we can only recommend it to advanced jailbreakers and developers at the time of this writing.

In case you’ve never jailbroken with unc0ver before, here’s an in-depth step-by-step tutorial.

Are you happy that the unc0ver jailbreak tool now supports all iOS versions up to 12.2? Let us know by leaving a comment below.
