UltraPowerSavingMode brings an Apple Watch-style power reserve mode to iOS

So much of our lives are spent using our smartphones these days, and yet they’re still powered by batteries that hardly seem to last a full day without needing a charge. Apple’s Low Power Mode is helpful when you want to take advantage of every last drop of battery life, but when you demand even bigger extremes, a newly released jailbreak tweak called UltraPowerSavingMode by iOS developer Prasa just might be a better choice.

In a nutshell, UltraPowerSavingMode attempts to duplicate the Apple Watch’s Power Reserve mode on the iOS platform, albeit in quite a far more advanced manner. Once toggled, the tweak optimizes your handset’s power usage to help you maximize battery life well beyond what the native Low Power Mode is capable of.

UltraPowerSavingMode can disable selected jailbreak tweaks on demand to reduce the strain of battery-intensive tweaks, automatically toggle itself on or off depending on the device’s charging state charge more quickly or discharge more slowly, and automatically close out of all backgrounded apps to reduce memory usage and save power.

In addition to these features, UltraPowerSavingMode doesn’t hinder your alarms, provides pleasant haptic feedback, and can announce the current power state with local or Siri voices. The tweak can be toggled on or off easily with a Control Center toggle, and you can even see a live view of your device’s current stats with a gesture when UltraPowerSavingMode is turned on.

Above, you can snag a glimpse of the tweak’s Control Center toggle, which offers a confirmation to prevent accidental toggling, and below, you’ll see what the stat page looks like when toggled:

Among the stats that the tweak supports showing are:

  • Estimated battery time remaining
  • The date and time
  • The battery percentage and temperature
  • Any upcoming alarms and events you may have

After installing UltraPowerSavingMode, you’ll find a dedicated preference pane in the Settings app where you can configure the tweak to your liking:

Here, you can:

  • Toggle UltraPowerSavingMode on or off
  • Toggle Quick Stats on or off
  • Configure Quick Stats Options
    • Display Static or Real-Time Stats
    • Choose how long the Quick Stats are shown
    • Hide or show upcoming alarms
    • Hide or show upcoming events (3, 7, or 14 days into the future)
    • Choose between Celsius or Fahrenheit for temperature
    • Choose between estimation, exact time, or both for a battery estimation
  • Toggle Tweak Manager on or off
  • Choose what jailbreak tweaks will be turned off when UltraPowerSavingMode is turned on
  • Toggle automatic turn-on on or off
  • Choose what battery percentage automatic turn-on happens at
  • Enable or disable automatic force-quitting of backgrounded apps
  • Toggle alarms and timers on or off
  • Configure a custom volume for alarms and timers
  • Configure a custom animation duration
  • Toggle haptic feedback on or off
  • Choose between three different haptic feedback types
  • Use legacy vibration for devices without the Taptic engine
  • Configure ChatSpeaker integration
  • And more…

As you might time to expect, an Apple Watch-style power reserve mode on the iPhone effectively locks you out your iPhone’s most enjoyable features for the added benefit of additional battery life. It can help ensure that you make it a day (or perhaps more) on a single charge, whereas traditional usage can drain the battery in mere hours.

Given the circumstances, one might not feel compelled to use UltraPowerSavingMode all that often. But when your battery gets low enough and you only need to glance at essential information every now and again, it can definitely become useful in a pinch. Best of all, it’s easier to exit UltraPowerSavingMode than it is to leave power reserve mode on the Apple Watch, which means all your iPhone’s best features are never too far out of reach.

Those interested in trying UltraPowerSavingMode can download the tweak from the Packix repository via their preferred package manager; then, after downloading, you can purchase a license and activate the tweak for $1.99. UltraPowerSavingMode supports jailbroken iOS 12 and 13 devices only.

Will you be giving UltraPowerSavingMode a try, or are you happy with Apple’s native Low Power Mode? Discuss in the comments section below.
