This jailbreak tweak lets you toggle your iPhone’s flashlight even when recording video

One of the restrictions you might discover when recording video via Apple’s Camera app is that you can’t turn your iPhone’s flashlight on like you normally can via Control Center.

While this isn’t something you might do very often, it can make certain scenarios tricky, especially when you’re in the dark and trying to start a video recording with your flashlight turned on, or when you’re already recording and want your flashlight turned on without using the Camera app’s flash feature since you want the flashlight to persist even after you stop recording.

Fortunately for folks in either of the aforementioned boats, iOS developer PoomSmart made a free jailbreak tweak called Record ‘n’ Torch (iOS 12+) that lifts this silly restriction, allowing users to toggle the flashlight even when they’re in the middle of recording video in the Camera app.

Record ‘n’ Torch is a tweak that has existed for a long time, but PoomSmart has breathed new life into the concept with this latest release that supports even the latest iPhone firmware.

While the feature is niche indeed, I can attest to a number of instances where I might have found this feature useful in the past several years, although admittedly, it doesn’t occur very often.

In my opinion, Apple shouldn’t restrict features with software, but they do it anyway in the name of a better user experience. Sometimes, however, these limitations themselves hinder the user experience in unseen ways, such as those niche instances where you wish your iPhone could do something and it can’t.

If you’re interested in giving PoomSmart’s new Record ‘n’ Torch (iOS 12+) tweak a try, then you can download it for free from PoomSmart’s personal repository via your favorite package manager app. The tweak supports jailbroken iOS 12, 13, 14, and 15 devices.

Those who aren’t already using PoomSmart’s personal repository can add it to their package manager app of choice by using the URL provided below:
