Google Gemini has been around for a while now, with the chatbot only getting better with each subsequent update. However, Google hasn’t been transparent about the limitations of Gemini, specifically if you’re on a free or Basic plan. Google is now clearing some of this ambiguity on its support page to reflect exactly how many prompts and other AI functions users can access.
The “Gemini Apps limits and upgrades for Google AI subscribers” support page was updated over the weekend to include specificity on the number of prompts, image generations/editing, video tools, etc., available to free and paid users. First things first, users on the free Gemini tier get access to up to five prompts/day, while AI Pro ($20/month) and AI Ultra ($250/month) users receive 100 and 500 prompts per day, respectively (via The Verge).
Giving you more clarity on Gemini’s multiple tiers
You will further get 20 Audio Overviews per day, regardless of the tier you’re on, while image generations/edits are capped at 100 per day on the basic tier, with AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers getting 1,000/day.
On the other hand, while AI Pro and AI Ultra tiers get “Limited access using 2.5 Deep Think,” free users miss out on this feature. The same goes for video generation, as basic accounts are yet to gain access to Veo 3-based video generation tools, whereas AI Pro users get to generate three videos in a day using Veo 3 Fast (preview), while the pricier AI Ultra plan offers five videos/day with Veo 3 (preview).
Lastly, both AI Pro and AI Ultra customers get access to “Priority access to some new features,” though this field is unchanged from the previously available chart.
Interestingly, it appears that the support page has only been updated in the US, as opening it from any other region still displays the “Gemini app upgrades” chart with the older metrics like basic, limited, and highest rather than specific numbers.
These additional details should help users decide which subscription to get based on their specific needs, while those who don’t need some of the more advanced features can continue using the basic tier.
