Google’s Gemini-powered revamp of the Home app is already shaping up to be one of the most significant updates in years, promising faster load times, deeper Nest integration, and a healthy dose of AI-assisted smarts. But if you’re one of the many households running an ADT setup (which often includes the company’s co-branded Nest cameras), you’ll be sitting on the sidelines a bit longer.

An unfortunate added delay

But probably for a good reason

ADT confirmed to 9to5Google this week that Gemini features won’t reach its subscribers just yet. While nothing is breaking — cameras, doorbells, and displays will continue working as before — the new AI smart home features that Google has been hyping are officially “coming later.” The company didn’t share a timeline, only noting that its team is still evaluating how Gemini and Google Home Premium fit into its existing platform.

That cautious stance shouldn’t come as much of a surprise. ADT has spent the past few years reshaping itself around Google’s hardware, and any hiccup with experimental AI could risk undermining its core pitch: reliable home security. In a statement, ADT said it “takes a security-first approach” and won’t push Home Premium until it’s confident Gemini is ready for “critical security use cases.”

In practical terms, ADT subscribers will continue using Nest Aware for event history, familiar face alerts, and other smart features, while the redesigned Home app — with its snappier performance and crash reductions — will still roll out. What’s missing are Gemini’s new perks: smarter camera notifications, richer automations, and lock-screen video previews. ADT also hinted that once the features do arrive, the rollout will be phased, meaning not every customer will see Gemini at the same time.

Meanwhile, Google is already selling its refreshed Nest hardware, which slots seamlessly into both Google Home and ADT-linked accounts. For ADT customers, though, it’s another reminder that partnerships with security companies tend to move more slowly than the bleeding edge of consumer tech. If you’re eyeing Gemini’s flashy new automations, you’ll need to wait until ADT gives the all-clear.
