The Pixel 9 Pro Fold ticks almost all the boxes for a foldable: great displays, decent cameras, good battery life, and a sleek form factor. Plus, it promises seven years of OS updates. A $300 discount helps, making its price a wee bit more digestible.

Google’s second-gen foldable — the Pixel 9 Pro Fold — is a big step up from its predecessor, improving in almost all key aspects. It packs a beautiful inner folding screen and a usable cover display, useful AI features, and capable cameras. And while the Tensor G4 is not as powerful as Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon chips, it at least offers better power efficiency.

The only catch? Google wants a whopping $1,800 for the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. Thankfully, for Memorial Day, you can save a sweet $300 off Google’s flagship foldable.

Why the Pixel 9 Pro Fold is an amazing foldable

The Pixel 9 Pro Fold has it all. A sleek design similar to other members in the Pixel 9 family, super-bright displays, and a software experience that other Android phones cannot match. It is also the thinnest foldable available in the US, with a waistline of 10.5mm. Yes, it is nowhere as thin as the Oppo Find N5, the world’s thinnest foldable, which measures 8.93mm thick. But that foldable is not on sale in the US, while the Pixel 9 Pro Fold is.

Unlike the Galaxy Z Fold and OnePlus Open, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold’s crease for the inner folding screen makes it easy to use. Plus, thanks to the 1:1 aspect ratio, the foldable gives a book-like feel when held in hand. You can’t ignore the crease, but at least it’s better than before.

The Tensor G4 inside won’t win any awards for its performance. It delivers respectable performance, with its biggest complement being that it does not run as hot as its predecessors. And thanks to the new Exynos 5400 modem, the idle battery drain is also much better.

As long as there’s plenty of light around, the 48MP primary and 10.8MP 5x telephoto can take great pictures. In low light, the results are respectable; they are not as good as what the Pixel 9 Pro can take, though. Battery life is also average, with the 4,650mAh cell providing just about enough juice to last a day. The slow charging speed is a problem though, with wired speeds topping out at 21W and wireless charging at a paltry 7.5W.

Overall, almost nine months after its launch, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold remains among the best foldable phones to buy in the US. If that $1,800 price stings, take advantage of the Memorial Day sale on the Google Store and Amazon to get the foldable for only $1,500, saving $300. Remember, the Fold also comes with a free year of Gemini Advanced subscription, so that’s an additional $200 in savings.
