Samsung’s first-ever trifolding smartphone is expected to be announced imminently. While we’ve already learned a fair bit about this device, tentatively named the Galaxy Z TriFold, more information continues to emerge.
Now, one of the most recognized leakers in the tech sphere, Evan Blass a.k.a. Evleaks, is offering some info on the upcoming foldable, including confirmation of the Galaxy Z TriFold branding. Besides knowing what Samsung will call its triple-folding flagship, Evleaks also provides details on the uneven thickness of the displays, the battery capacity, and the primary rear camera.
Per the leaker on X/Twitter, the Galaxy Z TriFold will offer a 6.5-inch cover display (2600 nits), with the phone’s display real estate reportedly measuring 10 inches (1600 nits) when fully unfolded.
Furthermore, buyers will find a Snapdragon SoC inside, although the specific version wasn’t mentioned. Previous reports indicate that it will either be the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, which was used on the Galaxy Z Fold 7, or the more recent Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. Our bet is on the former, given that Samsung has been developing the Galaxy Z TriFold for quite some time now.
Galaxy Z TriFold will feature uneven thickness, but does it matter?
Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold could have a few things in common with the Galaxy Z Fold 7
The rear primary camera is expected to be a 200MP unit, while the rest of the rear cameras are likely to resemble the setup on the Galaxy Z Fold 7. Meanwhile, Samsung will reportedly equip the Galaxy Z TriFold with a 5,437mAh battery pack, which should be sufficient to power the device for extended periods, at least on paper.
A patent in October shed light on how Samsung could bundle a battery pack in each of the three panels, thereby keeping the foldable relatively thin. However, per Evleaks’ revelation, the thickness of the three panels won’t be even. While one panel could be 3.9mm thick, the remaining two screens could be 4.0 and 4.2mm thick, respectively.
This aligns with multiple leaks that have suggested the phone will be 4.2mm thick when unfolded and 14mm when folded. We’re not sure the uneven thickness will matter much to prospective buyers of the Galaxy Z TriFold, with many potentially being eager to get their hands on Samsung’s first-ever trifold smartphone.
Speaking of which, the Galaxy Z TriFold is expected to be priced in the $3,000 territory when it’s launched, thereby putting it beyond the reach of the average smartphone buyer.
Perhaps recognizing this limitation, early reports indicate Samsung will limit the foldable’s launch to a few global markets, with the US reportedly not on the list. With this in mind, it is no surprise that the manufacturer is only expected to produce 50,000 units of the device.
