Google isn’t expected to change the design of the Pixel Watch 4 much compared to previous models, but it does appear to be making an effort with the band colors and materials used for them. It’s an important step, as if the design is staying the same, it needs to catch our attention in a different way.
The Pixel Watch 3 comes in silver, champagne gold, black, and hazel, depending on the case size you choose. For the Pixel Watch 4, it’s expected to launch in black, silver, gold, or “moonstone” according to Android Headlines. Moonstone is traditionally linked with blue, and one not often used on smartwatches. For example, Apple introduced a blue color for the Apple Watch 7, but sadly dropped it for later models.
Expect a variety of new Active bands to come out with the Pixel Watch 4, most in complementary colors, including a white, black, and a Moonstone version. These are likely to be joined by other Sport bands in different colors, such as an indigo, iris, and “Limoncello,” which we’d expect to be yellow. Many of these colors follow on from another leak regarding Pixel Watch 4 colors earlier in the month.
New band material may avoid controversy over health
Furthermore, Google may have chosen a new material for the Active Bands this year, which will be more comfortable than previous versions, according to the report. Early Pixel Watch Active bands were less flexible than some alternatives, which may have been addressed for the new model. Its current Active bands are made from fluoroelastomer, a material linked with PFAS, or “forever chemicals,” which may be absorbed by your skin over time and potentially lead to health concerns, according to a study published in 2024. It’s possible Google may have chosen a different material for the new Active bands, allowing it to distance itself from the controversy.
Google’s decision not to change the Pixel Watch 4’s design may prove problematic, as Samsung has adopted a cushion-style case design previously introduced with the Galaxy Watch Ultra across all its 2025 smartwatches. The Galaxy Watch 8 looks very different to the Galaxy Watch 7, with its own character and style to help catch attention, and prompt upgrades.
If the Pixel Watch 4 looks very similar to the Pixel Watch 3, Pixel Watch 2, and original Pixel Watch, Google will have to rely on the new colors and possible new band material — along with a rumored new charging system and dock — to encourage upgrades. We expect to see the Pixel Watch 4 along with the Pixel 10 series at an event on August 20.
