Google’s Extra dim feature was introduced some years back, and has become a fan-favorite among people that know about it. It’s a feature that allows you to bring the screen brightness to a level below the usual minimum, making it tolerable to stare at your screen at night. And while we saw Google tinkering with new ways to get it integrated into Android in the past, it’s now finally here if you’re a Pixel 10 user.
Android Authority reports that Google has now integrated the Extra dim feature into the brightness slider, which means every Pixel 10 user will now have access to the feature without having to dig into the Accessibility menu or add a new shortcut. Going forward, users will only need to slide the brightness slider to its absolute minimum in order to activate Extra dim setting.
Let’s hope this gets a wider roll out
This will allow the screen to go below its usual brightness level, making the screen easier to use in dark scenarios. Of course, as soon as you bring the brightness slider up, it will remove the Extra dim setting, allowing you to enjoy the screen as is. This is a fantastic tweak to an already great feature, because it means there won’t be any need to manually activate the feature.
This is a great change since it did previously cause problems if you forgot to turn off the feature, as it meant you were dealing with a really dim screen during the daytime. Users would then have to remember to turn off the Extra dim feature in order to get the screen back to normal. By integrating it into the slider there’s a higher chance that the previously mentioned issue won’t occur anymore.
The only downside is that, for now, this feature is only available on the Pixel 10. We know that this isn’t something specific to the hardware because it was tested using the Pixel 9. So hopefully, we will see this change roll out to other Pixel devices as well. Of course, for the time being, older Pixel device users will still be able to head into the Accessibility settings to activate it.
The good news is that once Google makes the change, you’ll be notified in the bright slider settings section, and will even have the ability to remove the shortcut, if you created one, directly from the same area. But if you can’t wait, it’s probably a really good excuse to pick up a brand-new Pixel 10, right?
