On the eve of the launch of Soulslike competitor Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, Bandai Namco Entertainment has revealed some truly astonishing sales data for both the multiplayer game Elden Ring: Nightreign and the expansion Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree. Both are impressive multimillion sellers, showing just how much FromSoftware’s open-world action RPG franchise has resonated with people.

The impressive sales data for both titles cements Elden Ring as even more popular than the Souls series that started it all for FromSoftware. It also sets the stage for Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition’s port to Switch 2, a new system that has also sold extremely well, and an upcoming movie based on the franchise.

How many copies of Elden Ring: Nightreign and Shadow of the Erdtree have been sold?

This is all in addition to the 30 million copies Elden Ring itself sold

According to new data provided by publisher Bandai Namco Entertainment in a press release, Elden Ring: Nightreign has sold 5 million copies, while Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree has sold 10 million copies. Those are truly impressive numbers, especially at a time when not every game is guaranteed to be a hit, regardless of whether it has a strong brand attached to it or not. In total, it looks like the Elden Ring franchise as a whole has sold a combined 45 million copies, which is nearly 10 million more than the last available sales data for the Dark Souls series.

That leaves little doubt that Elden Ring is now FromSoftware and Bandai Namco Entertainment’s premier franchise. When even an expansion like Shadow of the Erdtree can do that well, it’s clear that players are extremely interested in what Elden Ring has to offer. Bandai Namco seems to be doubling down on the franchise. While an official sequel to Elden Ring has yet to be announced, a Switch 2 port of the original is set to be released sometime this year. Civil War director Alex Garland is also set to adapt Elden Ring to film, although that does not have a release window.

Bandai Namco itself also appears to be doing quite well, as PlayStation maker Sony just invested over $462 million in the company. A press release explains the partnership between the two companies will allow them to “focus on expanding the fan community for IP such as anime and manga” as well as “create new and emotionally moving experiences for fans, and as a result of these efforts maximize the value of IP.”
