The Nothing Ear 3 get an official launch date and a potential big redesign

Nothing is keeping the hype machine humming, and this time we finally have a date. Tipped by Android Authority, the company’s next-generation flagship earbuds, the Nothing Ear 3, are officially landing on Sept. 18. After last week’s tantalizing “Ear (3). Soon.” teaser on the platform formerly known as Twitter, fans can now mark their calendars and prepare for the semi-transparent stems to make their return.

With the hint of an overhauled appearance

At least these photos are original, unlike some of Nothing’s other recent marketing.

The latest post offers a peek at the earbuds’ design, although the entire look is still somewhat hidden. They appear to retain the brand’s signature semi-transparent aesthetic, with a subtle dip in the stem where the product name is engraved. The silicone tips shown in the teaser indicate the black colorway, though previous models suggest other options could follow. Beyond this glimpse, the company has said nothing about specs, leaving audio enthusiasts guessing about battery life, ANC improvements, or codec support.

Interestingly, Nothing is reverting to numerical naming after receiving more fan pushback than you might expect on the recent detour. The upcoming product, technically the fourth generation, is dropping the ambiguous lettering scheme and embracing Ear 3, a decision credited to community feedback. Andrew Freshwater, Nothing’s Head of Global Smart Products Marketing, confirmed the change reflects fans’ desire for straightforward, chronological naming reminiscent of the Ear 1 and Ear 2.

Not for nothing (pun intended), Nothing has steadily made a name for itself in the TWS space. The Ear (a) impressed us with strong sound quality, effective ANC, and an intuitive control scheme, although the basic charging case and limited EQ options weren’t ideal. If the Ear 3 builds on that foundation, it could very well solidify Nothing’s position as a formidable contender for those seeking standout design paired with solid performance.

With the Sept. 18 launch just over a week away, we’ll be watching closely to see how Nothing balances innovation, usability, and its signature transparent flair.
