It’s been almost three months since I reviewed the Motorola Razr 2025, and it hasn’t been bested.

I love the Motorola Razr Ultra, and I appreciate the improvements Samsung made with the Galaxy Z Flip 7, but neither is the choice that should wind up in the most pockets.

And don’t even get me started on the “affordable” Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE.

That leaves the Motorola Razr 2025. A clamshell foldable that understands the assignment and gives buyers plenty of value for money.

If you’re still on the fence about buying a folding phone and don’t know how best to dip your toe in the water, here’s why the Motorola Razr 2025 is the only foldable you need to consider.

A cover screen experience worthy of a folding phone

Motorola does it best

I don’t know why it’s so difficult for Samsung to come up with an enjoyable cover screen experience on its foldables, but it’s been a struggle. Motorola has had it right from the start.

I love that I can add apps within seconds, not requiring Good Lock or Multistar to configure anything.

Motorola’s cover screen experience is intuitive, making it easy to swap views when the cameras get in the way.

The external screen may be smaller than the one featured on the more expensive Razr Ultra, but at 3.6 inches, it’s still an enjoyable experience.

A fantastic outer display is vital for a clamshell foldable. I don’t consider them disconnected devices, but one of the benefits is not having to unfold your phone to satisfy light scrolling needs.

I get my Instagram fix in just a few moments, and typing out a quick response on WhatsApp is excellent.

Motorola’s also done an outstanding job with little time-waster games on the cover screen. They are fun to play and quick to get in and out of, ideal for waiting in a line or while on the train.

Decent performance and all-day battery life

Midrange horsepower is more than enough

I admittedly don’t demand much from my clamshell foldables. I don’t enjoy gaming on the inner displays, and I’m not editing 4K video or photos on a Motorola Razr.

As such, I don’t need much under the hood. The Dimensity 7400X chipset won’t turn any heads, but it delivers enough performance to keep the user experience smooth.

Facebook scrolls are enjoyable, and I’ve never experienced any undue slowdowns.

It’s difficult to admit, but we often buy much more power than we need on smartphones, and midrange performance is perfect for a phone like the Motorola Razr 2025.

I also consistently get excellent battery life from the Razr’s 4,500mAh cell. It’s enough for an entire day of mixed use, which I’d expect from a device with a midrange chipset and 1080p display.

No one wants to use a phone where you have to worry about battery life by the end of the day, and that’s especially true for casual users.

The Razr 2025 is more capable than its spec sheet suggests, and you’ll never feel cheated.

The price is right

So many carrier deals and sales

The Motorola Razr 2025 is the best choice for many because it’s attainable. It’s not a $2,000 folding phone, and between carrier deals and regular Motorola sales, you can often find one for well below its initial $700 MSRP.

I understand why I don’t see many Galaxy Z Fold 7s when I’m out, because it’s a massive investment.

The Razr 2025, when on sale, is about what you’d pay for a midrange phone, making it an easier decision to try something new.

Clamshell foldables are about fun, and the Razr 2025 has a stylish design and vibrant colors. If you don’t buy Spring Bud, you’re doing it wrong, and I wish more Android manufacturers embraced saturated colors for smartphones.

Foldables need to keep getting less expensive

I can’t describe how disappointed I was with the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE. I thought even if Samsung sold it for $800, there would at least be some discussion and comparison between less expensive folding phones.

Unfortunately, that never materialized, and the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE should be a non-starter for most.

However, even though I never got the showdown I wanted, I’m glad Motorola offers something for those looking to save a few dollars while enjoying the benefits of folding phones.

If you’re in the market for a foldable for the first time, or you just want a fun phone, the Motorola Razr 2025 should be the only device you consider.
