After being unveiled on July 9, 2025, Samsung’s new Galaxy Z foldable smartphones are finally available to the public. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 arguably brings one of the most significant upgrades the series has seen so far, with a much slimmer design, the title of lightest foldable phone, and major hardware improvements including the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset and a new 200MP primary camera.

Samsung also detailed how it managed to make the Galaxy Z Fold 7 slimmer and lighter while retaining the same IP rating and improving overall durability. The company claims the Galaxy Z Fold 7 can withstand up to 500,000 folds, which is impressive — five times more than what Google’s Pixel 9 Pro Fold reportedly handles.

However, durability has always been a concern for foldable buyers. And even though Samsung has made steady improvements in this area, a new report has now given us even more concrete insight into just how durable the Galaxy Z Fold 7 really is.

Samsung says the Z Fold 7 can take extreme temperatures like never before

Android Authority reached out to Samsung Display to ask how the internal screen holds up under different temperature conditions. Samsung responded that the Galaxy Z Fold 7 can endure up to 60,000 folds at -20°C, and 300,000 folds at 60°C.

These numbers are nearly double what Samsung claimed for the Galaxy Z Fold 5 back in 2023, which handled 30,000 folds at -20°C and 150,000 at 60°C. To put that into perspective, even in extreme temperatures, the Fold 7 could handle around 30 folds a day for over five years.

However, Samsung still recommends avoiding extreme conditions. According to the company’s safety guide, you should use the Galaxy Z Fold 7 in temperatures ranging between 0°C and 35°C.

Still, it’s reassuring to know that even in tougher environments, your Galaxy Z Fold 7 should hold up well with regular use. Although, I’d argue that if you’re out in -20 or 60 degrees, you probably have bigger concerns than just unfolding your phone.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 is a generational upgrade. It’s the thinnest and lightest in the series to date, powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor and featuring a 200MP camera. With an improved, durable Armor FlexHinge and Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2, the device boasts a wider 6.5-inch cover screen and unfolds into a big 8.0-inch main display.
