EA has released the first trailer for Battlefield 6, giving us our best look yet at the latest entry in the long-running first-person shooter series. It’s mostly cinematic, serving to establish the new conflict that serves as the game’s backdrop.
This first trailer does not reveal much in the way of pricing or a release date, as it simply sets the stage for what’s to come. We’ll likely learn more when Battlefield 6’s multiplayer is unveiled next week.
Battlefield 6’s first trailer reveals the fight against Pax Armata
NATO also takes center stage
The Battlefield 6 trailer begins with a speech from the United States president, speaking about an unprovoked attack by a mercenary group called the Pax Armata. We then see a lot of cinematic shots of vehicles, armies fighting, and of course, Battlefield’s trademark destruction. These battles are taking place across New York City as well as some mountainous and desert regions, likely giving us a hint of what some of Battlefield 6’s maps will be.
The description of this trailer and a press release reveal a little bit more about Battlefield 6’s story. Apparently, Pax Armata is an organization made up of former NATO members that is specifically targeting NATO and its allies, which escalates into war. It seems likely that many of the characters and locales we see in this trailer will play a major part in Battlefield 6’s story, even if details of a campaign mode haven’t been shared yet.
At the end of the trailer, we learn that a July 31 multiplayer reveal is planned, with the press release confirming that the stream will start at 2:30 p.m. ET and that new maps and modes will be shown off there. Sadly, no official release date or even a beta window has been shared.
The rollout of Battlefield 6 needs to go smoothly because expectations for the game are high. The last game in the series, Battlefield 2042, was a disappointment for EA and the player base, and a Battlefield mobile game was canceled. As such, EA is putting a lot behind this new entry in the series, forming the Battlefield Studios coalition made up of four EA-owned developers: DICE, Ripple Effect, Motive, and Criterion.
A report from Ars Technica suggests EA is looking for Battlefield 6 to attract upwards of 100 million players. That’s a tall task for a shooter space so competitive that even a Star Wars multiplayer game can fail. We’ll see if that becomes a reality when the game eventually launches for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.
