Teaming Up with Grant Fritchey for ALS

We’ve all seen hundreds of videos now where people are dumping ice over their heads in the name of ALS (more commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease). ALS, short for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, is a degenerative disease that leads to the brain’s inability to control the body’s muscles. You can read a lot more about it at alsa.org.

The Ice Bucket Challenge isn’t about watching people get cold and wet. Really. While I won’t deny there is some serious entertainment value in some of these videos, the real impact is supposed to be about raising awareness for ALS and, ideally, driving donations. Donations are used to fund research into effective treatments and, ultimately, a cure.

Today I took the challenge (again!) with Grant Fritchey (@GFritchey) of Red Gate, and we are sharing this video with you.

If you liked our video, please consider donating here. And don’t forget to remind Steve Jones (@way0utwest), Kevin Kline (@kekline) and Thomas LaRock (@SQLRockstar) that they’re now on the hook, too.

Aaron (@AaronBertrand) is a Data Platform MVP with industry experience dating back to Classic ASP and SQL Server 6.5. He is editor-in-chief of the performance-related blog, SQLPerformance.com.

Aaron’s blog focuses on T-SQL bad habits and best practices, as well as coverage of updates and new features in Plan Explorer, SentryOne, and SQL Server.
