While T-Mobile’s been busy lining up perks like free lines and summer cookout tools, it’s also been working on the relatively new T-Life app behind the scenes. After months of delays and frustration, T-Mobile has finally rolled out a promised update, delivering two of the most-requested features: self-service SIM changes and support for business account management. The update is now live on iOS, with an Android release expected shortly (Source: The Mobile Report).

T-Mobile removed customers’ ability to change their account’s SIM cards on their own in 2022. Since then, users have been forced to contact support to manage both physical and eSIMs. It was a frustrating step backward during a time when the company’s Uncarrier reputation was still relatively untarnished. Despite growing pressure from users, T-Mobile offered no timeline for the feature’s return until earlier this year.

Initially slated for an April 24th release, in-app SIM changes were delayed without explanation. As of today’s update, the long-awaited functionality is finally here. As with many major app updates, expect it to roll out gradually, to mitigate any kind of bugs or disruption.

The process is straightforward: tap Manage in the T-Life app, choose the line to update, and scroll down to select SIM transfer or activation. Then just follow the instructions.

You’ll also need to enter the IMEI of the device you plan to pair the new SIM card with. That isn’t typical, but it appears the app only uses the information to detect what kind of SIM technology the phone supports, so you can choose whether to activate a physical or embedded SIM. Then, you’ll enter the SIM card’s number (either the ICCID or EID). A quick review and confirmation, and your number moves to the new card.

This update also marks the first time business customers can manage their lines directly through the T-Life app. Until now, users with business plans were forced to rely on T-Mobile’s web portal, which many criticized as clunky and outdated. The modernized business account support goes a long way toward bringing feature parity to more users.

Other subtle changes round out the update. The old “VIP Status” tab housing your T-Mobile Tuesdays perks is now simply labeled “Benefits.” Additionally, users can now shop for accessories directly in the app, streamlining the process whether they’re online or in-store.

After nearly two years of waiting, this update finally brings T-Life closer to the all-in-one experience it promised. Here’s hoping T-Mobile keeps the momentum going.
