The launch didn’t go quite as smoothly for Remedy Entertainment’s cooperative first-person shooter FBC: Firebreak as expected last month.

While the multiplayer spinoff of the critically acclaimed Control seemed like a safe bet heading into June, FBC: Firebreak was met with mixed reviews by critics and players.

While it garnered 1 million players across PC, Xbox Game Pass, and PlayStation Plus Extra, its success has paled in comparison to other multiplayer games launched in June, like Peak and Rematch.

Still, Remedy Entertainment is sticking to its post-launch support plans for the game and revealed more about the fall update in a new post on Steam.

Previously, Remedy promised content updates for the fall, including a new Job (what FBC calls its mission-promised content updates) and a level with unique enemies, gameplay systems, and rewards.

Now, we can also expect more substantial improvements to onboarding, gun variety, changes to how job difficulty works, and more in that September update.

What changes and improvements are coming to FBC: Firebreak?

Most will make casually playing FBC: Firebreak feel much smoother

In its Steam post, Remedy notes that most players who leave FBC: Firebreak do so within the first hour of playing. In response, it’s doing a lot to combat that.

The game will receive a more comprehensive narrative setup, firmly introducing players to the Control universe, a dedicated tutorial level, and refined pop-up tips to guide players throughout the mission.

FBC: Firebreak also holds many of its best weapons upgrades until later in the level progression, so that’ll also be addressed.

Weapons will soon be the most powerful versions of themselves from the beginning, and then be enhanced through a new weapon modding system. More heavy guns will also be added to the lineup as well.

Players can still expect the previously promised new Job and all the additions that come with that, but Remedy also plans to rework the Clearance and Corruption level difficulty systems into a more refined Crisis Board system that specifically tailors the length and corruption of each Job.

For a game that some may have assumed to be dead-on-arrival, that’s a pretty substantial update clearly committed to making the game better. More concisely, I’m looking forward all of the following from September’s FBC: Firebreak update:

  • Improved narrative onboarding
  • A tutorial level
  • Improved pop-up tips in-game
  • Three new heavy guns
  • Making the base version of each weapon more powerful
  • A weapon modding system
  • Job selection via the Crisis Board
  • More randomization within levels
  • A new Job with a new level and enemies to go along with it.
  • A new paid Classified Requisition progression track.

Looking at the longer term, a Winter update with a new job of its own has already been teased.

That said, Remedy admitted in the post detailing these improvements that “the specific focuses and features are a lot more nebulous,” regarding those future updates right now.

If you want to check out FBC: Firebreak after these additions are made, it’s available on PC and Xbox Series X through Xbox Game Pass, as well as PS5 via PlayStation Plus Extra.
