With Apple supposedly planning to launch a wide book-style foldable this year, rumors point to Samsung following suit and launching a similar model alongside the Z Fold 8 this year. Now, less than 24 hours after the Z Fold 8 CAD renders leaked, CAD images of the rumored Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide have surfaced online as well.
Reportedly codenamed H8 and carrying the model number SM-F971U, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide looks like two short S25 Edge units fused together. Unlike the Z Fold 8, which will house three rear cameras, the wide-body foldable will seemingly only pack two cameras. Besides the wider, squished aspect ratio, the Z Fold 8 Wide’s design appears similar to the Fold 8.
If the Galaxy S25 Edge’s camera specs are anything to go by, the Z Fold 8 Wide could sport a 200MP primary shooter and a 12MP or 50MP ultrawide.
Due to the wider aspect ratio, Samsung’s wider book-style foldable will feature a 5.4-inch cover display — substantially shorter than the 6.5-inch panel on the Z Fold 7. Even the inner display will only be 7.6 inches wide. However, the wider aspect ratio of both screens should ensure that they do not feel cramped.
According to the Android Headlines report based on CAD renders from OnLeaks, the device will measure 123.9 × 161.4 × 4.9mm when unfolded and 123.9 × 82.2 × 9.8mm when folded. That will make it among the thinnest foldables on the market at launch.
Big specs, big price?
While there’s no word on the internal specs, the Z Fold 8 Wide should use the same Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip as the regular Fold. It may even pack a similar capacity 5,000mAh battery with 45W fast charging support.
With the global RAM and NAND crisis, Samsung may end up pricing the Z Fold 8 Wide almost on par with its regular sibling.
Samsung should take the wraps off the Z Fold 8 Wide alongside the regular Z Fold 8 and Flip 8 at an Unpacked event in July or August. The wide-body foldable will compete against Apple’s first folding iPhone, which supposedly debuts in September.
