In the years since Samsung Pay and Samsung Pass merged to create Samsung Wallet, the company’s vision to build a home for all of your digital items has largely been realized. In addition to making mobile payments, you can now use the app to store loyalty cards, transit passes, and even digital car keys. Thankfully, as the app continues to grow, Samsung hasn’t forgotten about the user experience.
As spotted by SamMobile and first reported by Redditor /u/MidhileshSai, the latest version of Samsung Wallet (6.0.85) makes two notable changes. The first has more practical benefits: One UI 7’s new Now Bar is finally supported, allowing you to see live updates for things like the status of your flight or whether your train might be running behind schedule.
Of course, this will require that the company behind the transit passes you’ve added to Wallet provides updates on the status of your trip. But SamMobile reports that passes added via ConfirmTkt, a railway ticket provider in India, already work with the feature.
A touch of flair goes a long way
The second thing this update adds is less functional, but you might actually get more enjoyment out of it. When you swipe down on a card or pass, the app shows a vertical list of every item you’ve stored in your wallet. This is accompanied by a new animation where the cards playfully organize themselves into a scrollable stack.
Samsung continues investing in Wallet, so don’t expect these types of updates to slow down anytime soon. Just recently, the company added support for digital car keys from Mercedes, and this followed an earlier addition of the same feature with Volvo and Polestar models. Between that and the onset of digital IDs in several US states, a future where your Android phone replaces your physical wallet might be closer than you think.
